Black Rice

Black rice gets its signature black-purple color from a pigment called anthocyanin, which has potent antioxidant properties.


Black rice is best suited for creating porridge, salads or as a side for light meats

Cooking instructions

Pre-Cooking



Rinse the rice thoroughly.


Use a large cooking pot with wider base giving rice maximum space to expand. 


Do not prepare large quantity of rice in small pot.



Boil on Stove Top


  1. Add 1 cup of rice and 8 to 10 cups of cold tap water to a saucepan.
  2. Leave uncovered and bring to a boil on a higher heat stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes until tender.
  4. When desired texture is reached, remove from heat, drain in a colander and serve.


Absorption Method


  1. Add 1 cup of rice and 2 and 1/2 cups of cold tap water to a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil on a medium to high heat stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 10 to 15 minutes until tender stirring occasionally.
  4. When desired texture is reached, remove from heat, stand covered for 3 to 5 minutes and serve.


Rice Cooker


Add 2 and 1/2 cups of water of water for every 1 cup of rice. This ratio may vary depending on your rice cooker. Please check the manufacturers instructions.

Tip

Gently fluff rice with a fork before serving.
